History | List of Orphanages | Types of Orphanages Orphans Speak | Recommended Reading | Research Tips Roland from MAJune, 1998I spent the second world war with one sister and two brothers, the rest of us taken in by aunts. I was in Franco American Orphanage in Lowell, MA. It was run by Grey Nuns of Ottawa and they were extremely strict. There was no kindness shown. We ate overcooked oatmeal. I still visit there when I go home, although it's a daycare center now. Much of the old place still exist including the grottoturns out the building. It was donated to the nuns by Ayer family and was considered the mansion that Gen Patton's wife was born in. I lost my wife a few weeks ago and once again I'm alone in my thoughts. Roland |
